  • Captain America: Brave New World

Review: Captain America: Brave New World

Captain America: Brave New World brings Sam Wilson fully into the mantle of Captain America. One can be reminded of Iron Man 2 (2011), this movie juggles multiple plotlines, government interference, and heavy-handed world-building, sometimes at the expense of its central character ( who is one of the strengths of this film) .

Anthony Mackie delivers a strong performance as Sam Wilson, capturing his struggle to step into Steve Rogers’ shadow while forging his identity as Captain America. Cognizant of how people view him and being reminded , even by the character Thunderbolt Ross, ” Ross openly states during a tense disagreement after an assassination attempt at the Whitehouse, ” Remember you not Steve Rodgers.” Mackie delivers an appearance that takes the mantle of Captain America and successfully demarcates. His interactions with Joaquin Torres (played by Danny Ramirez) and the newly introduced President Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford) add weight to the film’s political undertones, with the public’s perception of Ross still being criticized for his past military actions taken as a 4-star general. The subplot involving Isaiah Bradley, a personal friend and former combat veteran ( one who was injected with the super soldier serum that Captain America took), also provides emotional depth, though, at times, it feels like the movie is trying to cover too much ground.

Visually, the action sequences are exciting, with the opening section with Captain America saving a Priest and Nuns from ( especially with Red Hulk at the white house, but the CGI is inconsistent— Some fights feel grounded and intense, while others suffer from overuse of digital effects that take away from the impact. The film also leans heavily on setup for future Marvel projects, which can make the story feel less like a fully realized narrative and more like a stepping stone to what’s next.

despite multiple reported reshoots, Brave New World still delivers moments of genuine excitement and emotional resonance, such as Thunderbolt Ross and his relationship with his daughter ( the former girlfriend to Bruce Banner, aka the Incredible Hulk) . It’s a solid, if somewhat messy, addition to the MCU—one that fans will enjoy, and I’m looking forward to a more focused story in the next installment.

2.5 out of 4 stars .Written by Sean McDonald
